Autumn Equinox at Slieve na Cailli Sandy was the first of our group to emerge from the passage mound, bowing down under the low stone doorway, face glowing, lit by the sun rising in an almost cloudless sky. Illuminated, like the intricately carved stone at the back of the mound’s inner chamber―which lies in shadow except two hours at sunrise a few days a year, when light and dark balance exactly. Sixteen of us hiked slowly up the steep hill through sheep pasture in near dark, some leaning on aluminum poles in place of ancient wooden staffs. We carried offerings of stones, tobacco, cedar. Hearts beating fast, we sought an opening, Earth’s womb, creation’s mystery. One by one we passed through the gate, then circled the mound step by step sunwise. In dim light, we glimpsed lichen-covered kerbstones of the mound, then faced east toward a slice of lightening sky. Below, low spots in the undulating green landscape filled with white mist, like the shallows of a great sea. Mist, too, is a doorway, a threshold; in the mist shapes shift, reveal magic. As the orange arc of sun rose above eastern hills, the sound of drums, ram’s horn, pennywhistle and rattles reverberated against stone, vibrating our bones. Strains of the Great Song entered the mound, the body of the goddess, fierce grandmother An Cailleach, for whom this hill is named. The first slanted rays of the sun reached in and brushed the inner stone’s green velvet, painting it gold. To see the light we each had to block it temporarily, clamber clumsily over the high stone threshold, duck under the lintel, feel our way into darkness, crouch like women in labor, huddle together like twins or triplets swimming in the womb’s inward sea―then settle, gaze at the sun’s rays on the stone as if no one had ever seen it before. No one had. Not one of us had ever been the person we were in that moment, seeing that light on that stone in that way. We each became someone new, the one who emerged from the passage, the birth canal, the doorway between life and death, light and dark, certainty and mystery. Our newborn faces glowed in the dawn. I received this book as an advanced promotional copy for an honest review. This book covers stretching the body for people just starting to exercised to more experienced trainers. This is more of an academic book and very informative about the benefits gained and how to do the stretches. He writes from personal experience being a personal trainer and health enthusiast. The only negative thing I can say about the book, it is very technical. It reads kind of like a college book. Overall in my opinion it is a good book for any one wanting to get into or back into a training routine.

The problem with workouts, I've found, is that I never seem to take enough time to properly stretch when I start (much less when I finish). While these workout plans are indeed that- workouts, I've actually been using them this last week as a warm up/cool down plan. There are several plans in here to fit the individual's needs (properly formatted so that I can click the name of the stretch and Kindle will take me to a pictorial explanation of the stretch) that range from a light stretch to a 'I earned this doughnut' workout.Quite honestly, the ones I enjoy the most focus on the hips. On my own it's easy to remember to stretch the calves and arms, but the torso misses out. It's a shame, really- it's an easy way to build up core endurance. As such, I focused much more of my attention on these sections of the book that the 'total body' workout, but the total body workout plan that I did worked up a sweat: it was wonderful.All in all, I'm happy to have this in my library. I start an audiobook, go to this one, go to my bookmarks, and I start stretching. It's a good way to spend my early mornings. As a last note, I must mention that this book is well edited, organized, and VERY well formatted. Highly recommended.//I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review//

As a promotional copy participant I was given the opportunity to review Mr. Roberts recent book on stretching workouts. Very informative and educational . I learned how to use a foam roller properly. Three different levels of difficulty are broken down as well as exercises to do while standing, sitting, or kneeling. I have the kindle edition on my phone which is perfect for traveling either to the gym or a hotel. Terminology of the different exercises and pictures are available in a PDF format are a plus.If you are looking for a solution for aching muscles and more flexibility this is the book for you.

I've recently started working out and can say being in my forties this has been an interesting challenge in itself. I was in on the beta read, well started actually using some of the stretches for legs and hips. I can honestly say I have greater range of motion when doing squats and walking feels a bit more natural. I do beleive stretching is overlooked, Dale puts everything you need to know with easy to follow exercise.

I found this particular book of Dale Roberts to be complete. It was a bit dry in delivery compared to his other books but saw this as an excellent book for guiding the novice. Also, it could become a teacher's manual down the road with some tweaking. Getting it for 99 cents was a bonus.

I bought this book because I wanted to improve my flexibilty but I am extremely disappointed. The lay out of the book is horrible so you can't look at the "workout" and the pictures of the stretches at the same time. The workout section is extremely lackluster and very vague. It looks like the whole book was copied of a website which it would be better if you just went online and got it for free. Hopefully this book gets improve because the idea of it had potential.

This book will do the most for people that are starting or are already in a fitness program and either skip stretching or don't know how/when to do it. That's something I was struggling with until reading the book and I've noticed differences in my performance and how I feel after my workouts.I liked the straight forward, no B.S., conversational approach that the author takes, it made it much easier to read. At the same time, there was enough specific detail to let me know he had done his homework. The author being a former personal trainer really added value for me, gave me confidence that I could trust what I was reading. The author covering different types of stretching may have been the most useful for me as it pointed out that I was practicing a dangerous form of stretching.To put it bluntly, this book was informative, to the point, in terms everyone can understand and follow, and included detailed pictures for me to model. A few of the pictures were a little dark but that's to be expected with natural light settings, it didn't prevent me from understanding the stretches.Received advanced promotional copy for review purposes.I bought a copy afterwards to keep on my kindle app to use at the gym.

The author does a great job educating us on the importance of stretching and he specific stretches to get us feeling fit and strong. These are perfect stretches for folks in a chair all day or physically swinging the hammer all day. Invest in a foam roller, a total game changer!

Frank Miller takes Batman to the edge. Amazing artwork with a lot of detail in the hand-drawn line-work. A must read Batman story. I really love this graphic novel. If you want to read one of the greatest Batman tales ever told, look no further.

Absolutely awesome story! Raw, mature and gripping. The world feels a bit like the Robocop dystopia. Since Batman is rooted more towards the gangster and villainous world, the mild SiFi approach seems like a breath of fresh air to the characters. The girl-Robin is also a very brave and favorite decision of the authors.The drawing is not my favorite style, which doesn't mean it's bad. On the contrary - the characters feel well shaped and like real humans. The action scenes with the big machines give sense of volume and scale.This is a must read indeed.

This is a review of the Kindle version only.I read this graphic novel 20 years ago and I loved it. Unfortunately, the Kindle version is completely unreadable. The panels are so small that the art work is obscured and the lettering is tiny. Trying to enlarge it does not help at all.

The best comic of all time. This anniversary issue is the epitome of this book. Frank Miller writes an amazing dark and gritty story set in a dystopic version of Gotham City which just sucks you in from the start. If you like Batman, especially the Dark Knight, and the dark and twisted side of that movie, I highly recommend this graphic novel. Plus it's super cheap on Amazon and the quality is awesome.

The kindle version is treated well. It looks great on my HD10 fire tablet with great image quality.The story is still powerful with amazing artwork.The first book of the four in the graphic novel still gives me chills when the Batman returns in full force after being retired for decades.If you have never read this graphic novel, do yourself a favor and spend an evening in a dark room and let yourself fall into Frank Miller's visionary tale of Batman's elder years.

My oldest brother had the original version of the book and I had read it so many times as a child that I fell absolutely in love with it. As years passed the original copy was lost and I had a really hard time finding it at a reasonable price. So when I found this 30th anniversary edition on Amazon for less than $20, brand new, I had to jump at the opportunity and I was NOT disappointed at all. This is my all-time favorite Batman story and I will continue to enjoy reading it for as long as I possibly can.

If you have not read this, quit looking down your nose at graphic novels and read this book. If you have, buy this edition—there are all sorts of bonus goodies that add great context to the publication of this story back in the mid 1980s. This is certainly one of the best comics ever crafted, and I don't think many would argue with that.

Absolutely the best version of Batman ever written. Frank Miller rescued the Great Hero from the camp of the sixties and seventies and took it back to the anti-hero that was originally intended. If your Comics fan this is an absolute must read.

I bought this book to study for the CDR Certification in Gerontological Nutrition. Of the books recommended for this exam, this book was the most helpful. I read the whole thing and it was less boring than other similar textbooks. It has a lot of interesting info on vitamin/drug interactions and vitamin/mineral deficiencies which helpful charts to study from. I passed my exam on the first try!
