This book is a huge tome of photos from the 80's and early 90's chronicling Punk, Skating, and Hip Hop for those of us who wish they could have been there but couldn't for lack of years. Being 5 years old at the time I couldn't have caught Minor Threat at CBGB or Run DMC at the Palladium but there are plenty of photos from that time and place and many others in this book. Having plenty of friends who feel the same way I expect this book will see some serious use from guests leafing through it.The construction and print quality are good. Photos fill entire pages with unobtrusive captions. Commentary from the various musicians and skaters pictured are interspersed but the book is easily 90% photos. Color quality is good, pages seem sturdy. Can't argue with the price point either. 35 bucks gets you a pretty hefty book.

I heard of the book on Ice-T podcast where Glen was a guest that day. Decided to buy his book cause he sounded like a strong opinion person about certain things. The book has interviews from ppl who share their stories how they started and why they started their thing and what pushed them to be great at it, be it music or skate boarding. Its inspiration.

Really a great book. I've flipped through several times and have enjoyed every page. Its a bit ironic to see the anarchistic musical heroes of my younger days on my coffee table, but we're all grown up now and that's the way it goes sometimes. A good read and brings back a lot of memories.

This is a masterwork. Not only the photos - many seen before, but also many new ones - but the sequencing, written contributions from artists, and packaging make this an absolute must-have for any fan of Glen E. Friedman. If you're interested in seeing or learning about the most monumental forces in the history of punk, hardcore, skating and rap, this is the quintessential photography collection. I could not put the book down once I started flipping through and look forward to looking at, and reading in more detail for years to come. Kudos to Glen E. Friedman for not only the amazing photos he's captured and shared, but for the presentation and effort in putting out this outstanding, must-have book.

I bought this as a gift for my friend. The book was delivered on time for his birthday and I have herd nothing but positive reviews from him regarding the quality,content and writing. I only previewed this at a local bookstore ( I personally own F**K You Heroes and The Idealist) to see if it was worth purchasing, In time I will buy a copy for myself as there are new photographs, and I really thought the lay out was top notch. Event the way the cover is made adds another touch of art to a grey collection of photographs by a truly amazing artist.

This "book" is more of a pamphlet. Only a few pages and poorly written.Lines were double spaced and had bad grammar. Conclusion was printed twice at the end. Not recommended.

I liked the book as an easy read. I did not think the information in it was any different than what you find for free in online articles.I was really disappointed that the book is priced so high for the information you get.

I was stunned that I didn't really care for this coffee table book of photographs. I can't recall when I was disappointed by one of the TASCHEN collection of photographs. They are always top-of-the-line quality products.In this case I don't blame my disappointment on Gisele because she is truly a beautiful woman and according to the limited amount of text included in the book she is always willing to work hard and go the extra mile to help make the photographer's vision come to life. That being the case I have to blame the photographers, art directors or both for my personal disappointment with the book. The problem with fashion photography is that it is designed to make the product being sold look good. That's pretty much what's wrong with this book. The products look great and oh yes, the model is nice too even with her freckles.Some great photographers are able to make photographs that go beyond the simple fashion portraits and become a higher form of photography. There are only a few photographs like that in this 10 pound fine art book.The neon orange pages and other crazy color combinations included within the volume are also distracting.Frankly, many of the family snapshots Gisele and her husband Tom Brady release to the public are more interesting than most of the photos included in this volume. I still can't believe I didn't love the book.

The dust cover that protects the book is thick and almost looks like it is part of the book. The spine is very sturdy and you don't feel like you're going to rip the book while picking it up or turning the pages.I thought the price was superb for the quality. I have seen lesser quality books of this size that cost twice or three times as much.Don't hesitate. Purchase this book and let the beautiful, heavenly eye candy that is Gisele take your mind away.

As one with BPD who has spent the last 8 months in therapy and has completed a 3 month DBT course I can say I actively practice dialectics with this book. I love and hate it. If there is a spectrum of this diagnosis id be on the opposite end of Kiera as my period of self harm was brief and isolated to adolescence, and I've never been hospitalized nor tried to take my own life. However this book became so relatable at times I had to walk away and practice my DBT skills to not be triggered. Other times I felt myself angry and envious of Kiera who always seemed to have her bills paid, a place to live, and whether healthy or not, a consistent boyfriend putting up with all of her issues. The part that was missing most for me in this book, (although it would be impossible to do in hindsight) was the minutia of the dissociation. It makes me want a journal of minute to minute feelings to accurately portray how varied and confusing they are. When I'm in therapy on a day where everything is peachy I have a hard time recalling my most recent (sometimes days or hours before) episode with anything more than apathy because that flight of emotion is gone and I no longer feel in the depths of an emotion mind out. Sometimes I felt her experiences were glossed over. It's one thing to say I laid in bed and cried for hours, it's another to say that minute to minute in those hours my mind went from self loathing, to self pity, to empathy and back ten times over.This book was suggested to me by my therapist and I'm glad I read it. Kiera definitely has made me feel understood and given me a camaraderie I hadn't found prior to this read.

A compelling read for anyone struggling with borderline personality disorder and I would, with much confidence, stretch this recommendation to anyone suffering. Doubtful there isn’t a human being alive that couldn’t relate to the words that pour from the pages of this incredible read, The Buddha and the Borderline. The words are filled with raw emotional honesty from the first page through to the last and it is in this integrity, this unique authenticity that it most resonated with this reader. I was drawn to this author because of the recent Thomas fire in California. I saw some of her posts on social media. I was impressed with the compassion she demonstrated to others, heartfelt kindness in light of the fact her own home burned to the ground. She lost everything: her clothes, her precious artwork, her pages of writing—incomplete books, and her furniture. But what she didn’t lose was her dignity and immense heart. I wanted to know more about her and in doing so came to a gofundme page that told her story and linked me with this book. As I sit here, after having closed the last page, I’m taken with the emotions this near stranger has elicited in me but more significantly the loss for adequate words to express how her outpouring, every bleeding exposure, left me feeling I just don’t have adequate words. The best expression I can give is to highly recommend this book. To all who want to get real with themselves, to all who dare to face their insides, and to all who dare to walk through the fires to know what it is to own your own personality, heart and soul.

My therapist recommended this book to me after diagnosing me as having BPD, and recommending DBT to me. I began reading it before starting DBT therapy, and like the other reviewers, it is comforting in some respects to read someone else's journey. It can be triggering. If cutting is your issue, you may find this book really triggering. It's not mine, but I'm squeamish, and her cutting issues definitely caused me discomfort. I think what I like best about this book is the fact that I view myself as "not in as bad of shape" as the author. It definitely made me feel less panicked about my own issues "Hey, I'm not THAT bad!" I did relate to her issues with her mother. The episode when they went into therapy together was enlightening to me. I think my mother and I are definitely two people who "cope" very differently and don't understand why the other one won't "cope" the way we do. Overall, I recommend it to anyone, but especially to women with a BPD diagnosis and/or are going through DBT.

I began reading this memoir after putting down "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me" -- I personally stopped reading it because it felt cold to me and made me feel even worse about being a Borderline. This book was exactly what I needed at the exact time I needed it. I'll refrain from telling my whole Borderline Personality Disorder story here other than this: I'm a 27-year-old wife and mother that lives a seemingly normal life on the outside, but suffers immensely with this disorder. I am just now in the process of finding healing and therapy. The Buddha and the Borderline is what honestly what pushed me to take my mental health into my hands. I listened to the audio of this book and read it as well. Now my husband is reading it to learn more about me. I don't know if you read these reviews, but if you do, thank you, Kiara.

Thoughtful mémoire on what it's like to have BPD. Wish she'd gone more into her relationship with Taylor, all the reasons she decided it wouldn't work out, and whether she now thinks it was for the best since this was the most intimate relationship described in the book, and the only deep one post-recovery. This is admittedly a self-serving wish, as I recently had to end a relationship with a woman I love but can no longer endure without her getting proper treatment. It is a little disappointing that the story ends with her still struggling more than I'd hoped, but it is honest, thorough, and very much appreciated.

There hasnt been anything that i have ever read, experienced or talked about that portrays BPD quite as realistically as this book. Never feel alone guys, Kiera has literally been thru it all like the rest of us. Her journey is fascinating and enlightening even tho she doesnt downplay a single facet of her struggle.Its the most honest personal account- of anything- that i have ever read. More than ever, i felt like i wasnt alone or weird or that i was different. Kiera gave me that, and its a rare things to have- surprisingly in such a connected world.

This book is good. It is almost like listening to James May talking on Top Gear. It is a compilation of articles he has written in Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper as well as Top Gear magazine. Few if any of the articles reference a date, so I couldn't place them in a time-line, which probably isn't important in the grand scheme of things anyway. James has a very dry sense of humor as viewers of Top Gear already know. You won't FOFLOL at these articles, but you will smile a lot, and your head will be nodding in agreement with his opinions. And he does have an opinion about everything that crosses his daily life, not just cars! He is a very intelligent man, and demonstrates his intelligence in such a manner that those of us not so blessed can appreciate what he has to say.Being British, many references are unfamiliar to us here in the U.S., but don't let that stop you from buying this book! I have not finished the book yet; I read a couple articles, savor them, and then wait a day or two before continuing in order to make the book last longer. Each 'chapter' is only about two full pages in length which make it a good read if you are waiting on HOLD, or have only one more Metro stop before yours.I do wish it were available on Kindle, which it was not when I bought it.

Bought this for the Hubby for Easter (you know, a "guy" gift). I opened to a random page and was laughing immediately. Most important, Hubby loves it. James May is clever & extremely funny, but then we all know this already. Great book, worth reading.

First of all, it isn't a book as much as it is a compilation of articles that he has written. Most are three pages or so in length. Some reference Top Gear episodes that date back three to five years, not that this is a problem. I found most of these articles entertaining and because they are short reads each, it is an easy book to pick up and set down. If you expect it to focus on cars, you will be disappointed. It is more the opinion of James May and background stories behind his various shows. I like it, if for no other reason, because we don't get to see or hear any of this kind of thing in the United States.

I bought this book on the off-chance that I might actually like it, because I thought May was funny on Top Gear. I'm clueless about cars in general, so it was quite a leap. And while this book is called 'Car Fever,' not everything is actually about cars, so if you're a car enthusiast and that's as far as your liking of May goes, you may not want to bother. HOWEVER: if you're one of those people who thinks May is brilliant because he's nerdy, esoteric, and clearly smarter that the other two Top Gear presenters combined (though I love them both!), then yes, buy this. You won't stop laughing. :D

Here is another installment of the top gear franchise. I quite like James May's take on all things motoring.He writes in an easy style that is interesting to amble along with.A good book to have handy that you can just pick up and read a chapter and not worry about a story line

Someone has stolen my son's backpack with tons of school supplies and textbooks-- he was mostly so very sad that he lost his James May book.poor guy. He took it to school with him everyday. I read it as well--fantastic. funny.

Understood this was a years worth of his weekly newspaper column. Having watched him on BBC America (mostly Top Gear) i figured it was worth a few bucks. Glad i bought it. With the chapters being so short you can pick up where you left off without having to read all at once.

Funny and well written. My boyfriend says the stories are just the right length for when you're on the toilet :)

Robert M. Edsel is the best-selling author of The Monuments Men and Rescuing da Vinci and co-producer of the award-winning documentary film The Rape of Europa. What an amazing story! My father lived in Italy during WWII and I never spoke with him when he was alive about how it was in Italy during the war. Many cities experienced much destruction, including Naples, Milan, Florence and Monte Cassino. In 1980 I saw DaVinci's fresco The Last Supper and there were photos of the destruction of the church where the fresco was. Did not dawn on me that it was allied bombs which blew up the church but the bombing was of the train yards right near the church. Even in a brutal war men realized the importance of these masterpieces, men on both sides of the war. The story that is told is incredible and I am surprised it took this long to get this story out there. I see where a movie is being made on this subject and will be released in December. Interwoven in the story is the German surrender in Italy and how complicated it was, the Germans just could not surrender that easy. Also did not know all the bridges in Florence were blown up by the Germans (rebuilt after the war) except for the Ponte Vecchio (which Hitler loved that bridge). The bombing of the abbey in Monte Cassino, allied forces had no choice but to bomb it. All the men searching for these masterpieces, college professors, museum curators, what a story. Thank you Robert Edsel for writing this story.

I couldn’t put it down! Saving Italy is a page turner with a compelling narrative that often keeps you on the edge-of-your-seat with suspense. The drawings that Monuments Man Deane Keller sent home to his young son offer a revealing insight into the man’s mixed emotions about his eagerness to help save the treasures of a country he loved in the midst of war, coupled with the loneliness and isolation he felt being separated from the family he adored. The passion and impulsiveness of Monuments Man Fred Hartt help the thrilling adventure of Saving Italy come alive. Edsel does a great job bringing out the very human side of his complex characters, including a little known Nazi General, Karl Wolff. The book is well-researched with many author interviews noted, but is presented in a way that reads more like an espionage novel. I highly recommend Saving Italy not just to those who love art or WWII History, but to anyone looking for an inspiring story about the human spirit and the sacrifices people make to follow their passion, risking their lives for a cause greater than themselves. Five stars doesn't seem like enough!

This is an amazing story about a part of WWII history that I was not familiar with. The author did a great job researching and writing this compelling narrative about a "new kind of soldier" empowered to protect rather than destroy. I have read many books about the war but can't remember one that included so many rich details. The characters practically leap off the page. The story is fast-paced, reading more like fiction. As a reader I felt like I was almost part of the adventure. One of the most interesting plots in Saving Italy involves a secret Nazi surrender of Italy in which the art work is held hostage while an SS General negotiates with American spies. I was surprised and riveted by these details. Overall, this is an exciting read and I would highly recommend it. (And I can't wait to see the Clooney movie based on the author's last book, The Monuments Men.)Saving Italy: The Race to Rescue a Nation's Treasures from the Nazis

Both books explain the extrordinary success of this small MFAA group spanning from 1943 through 1946.It should be recognized that the story still is not over as there are still thousands of art pieces that are still missing or not returned to their original owners.If like World War 2 stories and have an interest in art, I highly recommend both books by the same author. If you choose to read both books, I would recommend reading Saving Italy first as it actually precedes The Monument Men on a WW2 timeline, even though the author wrote them in reverse sequence. Methods developed and determined to be successful in Italy were put in place before the D-day invasion of western Europe.Both books are highly readable. I recommend using your favorite search engine and Wikipedia to look up the artwork as you read these books, which will add to your appreciation. Btw, the author did include maps in Saving Italy, which helped a lot.I highly recommend both books.

Edsel explains that the effort to save the Museum Quality Paintings and Art Objects the Nazi's were pilfering during the occupation of Italy was so complex and of such a large scale that it had to be written separately from the story of their work in Europe.If you enjoyed "Monuments Men", you will love "Saving Italy." While the goals were the same for both the European and Italian Monuments Men, the situation was different in Italy requiring different detective skills and rescue planning techniques from those used in Europe. Readers may enjoy learning about the role The Vatican played in this determined effort to get the Art back where it belonged or protect it from being looted in the first place. Readers may be saddened by the destruction of many irreplaceable architectural treasures which were destroyed by the Nazis just out of pure spite as they were losing the war.This is another great read..
