I scored a hardcover textbook for 17 bucks in the used section! I received the book and it looked like I purchased a brand new book. Really impressed! It is just what my daughter needs for her course. From what I hear from her, it is an informative book, easy to read/learn, and has lots of visuals. She really likes the book. If you are interested in the sciences and the medical field, she really recommends it.

I wanted an in depth book on the Human Body. Most books I looked at were for someone who just wanted a survey of the body without any real details. I realized I would have to take another tack and looked at textbooks for my needs. This book has exceeded my expectations and is justified in its price I feel. Very in depth with excellent illustrations and everything a great textbook needs for the discerning individual.

I had to buy three A&P textbooks for a class I'm taking. This one is by far the best. Easy to understand, chock full of great artwork, and a nice balance between normal functioning (the biggest focus by far) versus common diseases for each system of the body (usually to highlight why normal functioning is so important). My CD was broken, so I can only use the online study tools, and they are helpful. Nice job!

I've been using git for years without really knowing how powerful it was. I had tried to wade through the documentation on the git site and elsewhere, and looked through Pro Git. I mostly came away intimidated and confused. This book got me out of the habit of just using github like a backup drive and into dynamic versioning of my projects. It somehow manages to be approachable and quick to read, but with a satisfying amount of depth on all the topics I've needed in my use of git.Advanced git users won't really benefit, though. This one is just for us beginners.

I never write reviews, but this is the best technology book I have ever read. I wish all instructional books were written with as much clarity, brevity and thought as this one. It walks you through baby steps all the way to the complicated concepts without blasting you with theory or complicated examples. It teaches you the building blocks so you can build the castle yourself. Kudos to Rick Umali and Manning.

I like the style, and you can either read every word for the full picture, it you can move on when you feel you've got it.

If you need to learn Git, I strongly recommend this book.First, don't be put off by the book's title. I worked through it in a few evenings.More importantly, "Learn Git in a Month of Lunches" is the only book that has actually enabled me to put Git to work. If you have only makeshift knowledge of Git acquired by osmosis, cheat sheet, and asking your office buddy, you will reach a point where it becomes necessary to learn Git systematically and comprehensively. With that in mind, I have tried reading several different books about Git over the last few years, but they all lacked, well, readability, and I soon set them aside and moved on to other interests.If that is your experience too, then like me you live with minor trepidation that accompanies encounters with Git, where we are able to get by for simple operations, but with hesitation and uncertainty about what Git might actually do when we finally enter the command.What sets this new book apart is its readability, and its overall design intended to teach and explain, not just document. This is a fine book by a talented author. I am only part way in, but this is the book I have needed to learn Git thoroughly and to use it effectively and with confidence.You can use Git for years without knowing much about it, or you can read the right book and actually know what you are doing. This is the right book.

To be honest, I don't like doing anything during my lunch hour except actually eating lunch and spending a little time decompressing from the morning's work and catching up on the latest news and rumors. But I do like books such as this one that explain and illustrate key concepts in chapters that can be read in an hour or less and re-read even faster.I have tried learning Git using online documentation, and I once took a reasonably good online class in how to do software version control with Git. But I don't use Git very often, so I tend to have trouble remembering a lot of its commands and command-line options. (Git, by the way, has a LOT of commands and command-line options.)For me, "Learn Git in a Month of Lunches" has quickly proven to be an excellent reference book, especially when I start wondering such things as: Now, how again do I use git pull? And didn't the author recommend sometimes using the git fetch and git merge FETCH_HEAD commands, instead, "so you see exactly what files will be merged and how"?I also consider this book to be well structured. It starts at the beginner level and gradually works its way upward, showing how to enter specific commands and options on Git's command line. Each chapter includes "Try it now" exercises to help drive home the how-to points. And, when necessary, the differences between specific Windows, Linux/Unix and Mac command-line sequences are clearly shown.The book's first six chapters are aimed at newcomers to Git, starting with installing the software and working through creating a Git repository, adding files to the repository "and how to inspect its history." Author Rick Umali notes: "These are the basics, and if you are using Git on your own, these are probably the only chapters you need to learn."The next two chapters are devoted to "intermediate commands. You'll learn about the Git staging area. You'll also learn other ways to inspect a repository's history, beyond the basics." These two chapters can help you if need to learn how to "work as a contributor to repositories that you don't own or create."Branching and merging are covered in chapters 9 and 10. And chapters 11 through 14 focus on "how to collaborate with others: how to get changes from other people and how to submit your own changes." This was a gift to friends who moved to WI to help them get to know their new state.

It's a far cry from the pro level (in fact I'm still crying that I bought a book that turned out to be black and white). I have read the very same information on the web, so it's disappointing to have paid so much for it. I'm not interested in salt water because of the lack of plants for it so I skipped that section.

Not what I expected. Mostly directed at saltwater tanks than freshwater. It was very short and contained no more info than an article at one if the fish magazines online. All of the info was accurate but didn't add anything to my knowledge . No specifics on plants or tips on how to grow them specifically. And few pictures. Oh well.

The cover of the book is its best asset. I thought I was buying a book about landscaping a planted tank and published by a real publisher. I bought this book along with Freshwater Aquarium Chemistry and both books are very short in length and very amateurish in execution. I was surprised that the author attempted to cover both planted and reef tanks one short monographs. The information was very disjointed. Mr. Martin would have been more successful if he concentrated on planted tanks and helped hobbyists like myself achieve the beautiful tanks showcased in AGA competitions. The information is woefully inadequate for that goal. I would highly recommend that readers steer clear of self-published books like this. The Barron's series of aquarium books are examples of professionally written, organized and printed hobbyist books.

This is a decent book about setting up a new tank for a beginner and it quickly covers a lot of ground in very general terms. Only about 10% of the book actually discusses aquascaping and everything that the author does cover you can find online for free. In fact, there are many, many more interesting and detailed discussions of aquascaping in online magazines and forums. I would skip this Kindle book.

The guy's name is Moe Martin. This is important. Because when it's listed as authors names are in bibliographies, it looks like, "Martin, Moe". I saw this in the author description, and thought, 'whoa, wow, Martin Moe, the actual, good, bright, together marine author wrote a book on planted tanks? That's got to be gold. I wonder what kind of insight he could bring to the subject matter.".None, would be the answer. Because it's not the same guy. I am a moron for missing that critical comma.My bad, naturally.. but now that I'm stuck with this stinkburger of a book I can say: Some useful ideas, some pretty pictures, but dreadfully incoherent and not really good reading. My bookshelf teems with less sucky books about Aquarium Landscaping. Some of those books are about other subjects, but have more and better information. You could do better by reading some random aquascaping-related pages on the internet. It's not worth the money or your time.This guy's book could've really been something if it had had a real editor, and some real attention to content to make it coherent and not scattershot.. but if you get it, you'll be getting what you pay for: It's either self-published or vanity-press style drivel. Moe: Please! You have a good book in you, but for you to channel it outward... you're going to need an editor! Also maybe an outline, and sticking to subject categories. Just word to the wise.

It's not a very long book and so, even though it has some useful information, it's all pretty basic and you won't really learn a lot of new stuff. Plus, I felt like more than half the info in this book was about corals. For some reason the author decided to treat everything else very superficially and dwell deep into the different corals and how to take care of them. If I really wanted to learn more about aquascaping I would definitely be looking elsewhere.

The cover misleads. This book contains poor, blurry black and white photos. If you are setting up a freshwater tank, less than half of the thin book will pertain to you. You can get the about of information in this book by spending about 30 minutes on a good aquascaping website.

This book is a must buy for all those inspiring game makers out there. I really got my money’s worth out of it. The book covers all the skills needed to create a full game from start to finish and gives example and code throughout. Unlike what the title says, it took me longer than a weekend to finish. I do not mind the extra time as I feel it added value to the book. The most time consuming part of the project for me was the making the different maps. The book offers the ability to download the maps from their website, but I wanted to make them myself. Again, this added to my enjoyment of the book. A negative about the maps in the book is that they are small and in black and white. For most thing, B&W is okay, but for the maps, they should have been larger and in color. I had to resort to looking on the internet for the map images. I found them, and although they were also small, they were in color and that helped.The book takes you through the development of the game by making two towns. The starting town and a hidden town the players find via a quest of sorts. There are 6 levels to the dungeon crawler presented in the book. The book teaches you how to make new characters, items, weapons, and even spells. The book not only tells you how to do it, it offers minor suggestions on how you could improve on what is in the book.The main game from the book is built solely from what is available in the basic game. There is a chapter at the end of the book that talks about how to improve the game with add-in scripts and other neat ideas, if you so desire.Overall I like this book a lot and recommend you pick it up if you enjoy making games and you want to know how to use the tools available with RPG Maker MV.

I almost didn't buy this book because of some of the negative reviews, I would have missed out on an excellent teaching tool. I have zero exp with rpg maker mv BUT I had an idea about the rpg I wanted to make and how I wanted it to work. I read the book cover to cover in a few hours and while reading it I had my own game in mind. I watched the author work through things I wanted to do. I am going to start building my game and will be leaning heavily on this book for reference as I still technically have no exp.

Its an easy to follow guide that get you started very quickly. Before you know it your already off track and creating things all on your own.

I got this book as part of the Humble Code Your Own Games bundle, and, man, I am glad I only paid $1 for it. RPG Maker MV can be more than a little obtuse and difficult to follow, but I'm sad to say this book only makes it worse.First and foremost, it seems like the book's editor was asleep on the job, because the book is absolutely packed full of digressions, half-formed thoughts, and constant references to RPG Maker VX Ace, the previous version of the software that has no bearing on the 'tutorials' at hand. This would be bad enough in any non-fiction book, but it's especially frustrating for a book that is supposed to be teaching you how to use a piece of software. Clarity should be the primary goal of anything designed as a tutorial, and this book has absolutely none of that.It is almost like the book is a direct transcription of what the author was saying as they messed around with the software, no editing, no revising for clarity, nothing.Every 'lesson' in the book goes like this: the author vaguely describes how to do something (usually with a reference to how RPG Maker VX Ace was better or different) without any explanation for why you should be doing it or what you're actually making. He then says "then do it some more for the other things like this" and then we're back onto another digression.I'll share with you the line that broke me and made me decide going further with this book was not worth my time. I should point out this was on page 12:"Anyway, let’s get back to working on our transfer events. I believe we were about to make the exterior transfer event. This time, let’s use one of my favorite transfer event trimming devices: the Parallel trigger."It's like having an absentminded professor fumble his way through a half-remembered lesson he taught twenty years ago. I should point out that at this point in the 'tutorial' I had literally just been introduced to Transfer Events and didn't have any real comprehension on what they were used for...now the author is sharing his own work-around to mess with the program's built-in event handling process.It's a shame that there are not many good tutorial resources for RPG Maker MV, as it seems like a nice, powerful program for making RPGs. It's also a shame that Apress would have the gall to publish this incomprehensible mess of a book.
