I had heard very good things about this cookbook and I was not disappointed.For one thing, it is a huge cookbook with the pages taken from the Donna Hay magazine. The photos are so beautiful that I kept this cookbook on my coffee table just to peruse it for awhile.But in addition to the beautiful photographs, the recipes are clearly written and contain the fresh ingredients one would expect from Donna Hay. I had four or five marked to try on my first read through the book.I will warn you that the original of this cookbook would be in metric since Donna Hay is an Australian magazine. My copy had the American version of recipes, which is good because I am terrible at math and making conversions.This is a cookbook I've already come back to often.

The book itself is absolutely beautiful. The pictures are amazing, the recipes sound delicious, and my first time through it I had multiple pages marked to try out. However, the one major downfall for me was that upon the first few times of opening this book, the binding fell apart. At first it was just the front cover and the first page that separated from each other, not too big a deal. I thought some glue would easily fix it. Then when I opened it again, the whole binding came undone from ALL the pages. It just fell off. Normal white glue didn't work at all for fixing it, and even super glue didn't make it stay. So I returned it. Then when I got the second book, it did the exact same thing. Super glue DID make it stay this time, but I'm not sure how long that will last as it's clearly not a permanent fix, and now the pages are starting to slightly separate from their binding as well.Long story short, be prepared to have to either glue the mess out of it to make the binding stay, or maybe just take it to a bookbinder. The glue on the original binding is very poor, and it was really disappointing to have it happen to two different books. I don't believe this is any fault of Amazon's, it's just the manufacturing of the book, it wasn't made well. If the book itself wasn't beautiful and full of great recipes, I would've just returned the second one as well. The recipes themselves make keeping the book worth it to me.

As with all of Donna’s books, this was absolutely beautiful. Lots of gorgeous photos and delicious recipes!The only complaint that I might have is that starting with page 80, it started up with page 26 again.. and continued through to page 36. So I have duplicate pages in the book 26-36. Right after that, it continues to page 100... so technically, I’m missing pages 91-99.I sure would love to know what recipes and photos are on those pages that I’m missing!

I have all of Donna Hay's cookbooks and this may be one of the only ones I have given less than a five star rating. I prefer some of her smaller editions since this is really more of a coffee table book than a usable cookbook. The binding is done poorly, just cglued on and after a few reads cracked and unfolded along the back which was disappointing. Fortunately I am a scrapbooker so I have plenty of sturdy glue and was able to fix it nicely.The content is from her magazines (she is the Martha Stewart of Australia) which are gorgeous folios that i have seen before in Barnes & Noble. They are expensive magazines to purchase in the US but the production values are extraordinary. I love her aesthetic and I love her recipes.I like cookbooks that are done seasonally. I usually will focs on the current season and get all I can from it before moving on. Since this is now Spring I have really enjoyed the recipes for the season. They epitomize a lovely spring. I did thumb through to winter which kind of different in Australia and the food is not much like food that we have in the US in the winter. That's ok though because I live in Florida and have two seasons here - hot and not-as-hot. My nothern friends might not find that chapter as useful since it recommends cookouts on the beach!It is a beautiful cookbook with gorgeous photos of every recipe. It sets the bar very high (as do all her other cookbooks) and makes you hungry and want to get to cooking immediately. All the recipes are simple and delicious, you will usually not find anything too difficult in her books. I don;t do desserts but they look pretty easy to concoct as well.The cookbook has two sections per each season, a savory and then a sweet. The sweet section is much smaller but stays true to the seasons.I got a great deal on this cookbook but truthfully would have spent more for it and been quite satisfied.

This book is so lovely to look at. I love that it's organized by season, makes it easy to grocery shop or pick from your garden. The recipes are divinely simple, yet most of the recipes feature complex and fresh flavors. I've already tried the Paperbag Red Snapper with Preserved Lemon and the Chocolate Clafoutis--- both were delicious and so easy.

Great book with wonderful content and a beautiful layout. The binding is terrible. This is a big book and it is a paperback. The book arrived with the glue already separated from the front cover. I would love this book if it were a hardcover, but as it is, this won't stand up in the kitchen and I had to return it.

Wonderful picks and great recipes, but the binding broke and the cover came off after very little use. Really was hoping it wouldn't break the 5th time it was opened.

Relationship wise most of the book was utter misery for both Levi and Dominic, they battled their own demons while trying to rebuild what they lost, both not giving an inch. But suspense wise it was everything I expected and even more.Yes, Seven of Spades is still at large, is still killing under the guise of vigilante justice but suddenly it takes a very personal turn, and Levi finds himself in the center of a vicious mind game where in the end he can lose it all - his job, his friends, his love and most of all himself. There are secrets buried deep in the past. And Seven of Spades decides it's time to bring it all to fruition - all the carefully staged plans in order to bring Levi to their side. And Levi is all alone, he struggles day in and day out to keep it together but when murder after murder hammers him down, it seems he no longer can get up on his own.Dominic is deep in the middle of his relapse. He tells himself that he is in control, and at first it looks like he is. He functions but little things show to those who love him that he is losing it to the thrill of gambling. Levi and Dominic hurt each other, then love each other, then hurt each other again - it's a never ending circle that has to be broken.The murder case this time is a tad bizarre. Fraud claims, kidnappings and missing eyeballs prove to be a challenge but again both Dominic and Levi are working together to solve the mystery that is full of lies, misdirection and deceit. But when Stanton is kidnapped, Levi even though he is under investigation himself goes to impossible lengths, breaks laws in order to save the man that once meant the world to him. But finally Dominic is there to offer support and strong shooting arm, and they are victorious. The case is solved, the perpetrators are in jail. Dominic and Levi finally talk and actually listen to each other, but right then Seven of Spades rears their ugly head to make their move, and this time they will break Levi for good. Curious? Yes, you should be! It is glorious, devious, ingenious and horrible. But the choice is already made...I loved it, ranted at it, kissed it too... it was everything and more. I highly recommend it! It is intoxicating suspense!P.S. Stanton redeemed himself in the end unexpectedly, and now I am team Stanton! He is a fine man, and I hope he finds love too!

This book was a wild ride from start to finish. I have enjoyed all the books in this series, but this one really took it to the next level. Dom and Levi's interesting way of being 'broken up', the SoS's current criteria for selecting victims, and the other murder case Levi and Dom work on are all enough to keep you on the edge of your seat individually, never mind together. There are background characters that reveal new aspects to their personalities. Rebel the dog shines as always. Chances are your opinion about at least one character in the series will change--I know mine did.I loved this book. I can't wait for the next one, although I am oddly OK with the way this one ended. Cordelia Kingsbridge is an amazing author and I would never hesitate to buy her books.

Cordelia has developed an absolutely beautiful, real and perfectly imperfect couple that will be sticking with me for quite some time. Just this passage alone enhanced for me the depth to which a writer can create emotional connection without words and without touch."Dominic unwrapped his sandwich and separated the halves. Nudging one half in Levi’s direction, he raised an inquiring eyebrow.Levi hesitated. Unlike most people in his life, Dominic never pressured him to eat. If he turned down the offer, Dominic would let it go at that. But it had been a while since he’d last eaten, and though he wasn’t hungry, it was a good idea to get some fuel in his system that wasn’t caffeine.Nodding his thanks, he sat across the table and accepted half the sandwich. When he bit into it, he was surprised to find it was roast beef, his favorite.Dominic didn’t even like roast beef.Levi swallowed his mouthful and looked up. Dominic was chewing in silence, watching the infomercial on the TV across the room like it was the most fascinating thing he’d ever seen. Levi fiddled with the crust of the sandwich for a moment, then took another bite.They ate without talking for a few minutes."Yes...I got teared up reading this. Just wow!Eagerly await a reread of this series as well as the final book in the series.

Seven has called and talked to Levi and he has started to protect Levi more and more. In this book, that involvement takes a sharp turn. Seven is implicating Levi. Towards the end, Seven explains why. It’s not a satisfying explanation and I hope future books expand this point.The mystery of the book is well done. The identity of the killer seemed obvious from the start. The red herrings were brightly flashing red so a reader would recognize them. That’s the only part of the book that falls flat. The crimes are gruesome and the killer is hard to catch. People close to Levi are in danger. There's more tension here in previous books because the reader isn't sure that it will come out ok.A really great read. Probably not a good standalone but better read within the series.

Kok-Kwang Phoon is a distinguished professor and head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore, and past president of the Geotechnical Society of Singapore. His main research interests include statistical characterization of geotechnical parameters and reliability-based design in geotechnical engineering. He is the recipient of numerous research awards, including the ASCE Norman Medal in 2005 and the NUS Outstanding Researcher Award in 2010. He is the founding editor of Georisk and chair of TC304 (Engineering Practice of Risk Assessment and Management) in the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. Jianye Ching is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, National Taiwan University. His main research interests include geotechnical reliability analysis and reliability-based design, basic uncertainties in soil properties, random fields and spatial variability, and geotechnical design codes. He is the secretary of TC304 (risk) in the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. He is the recipient of the Outstanding Research Award and the Wu-Da-Yu Memorial Award from the National Science Council of Taiwan, Republic of China.

I wish there were a way to return this book. It does not have page numbers that are accurate/coordinate to the page numbers in the paperback copy, so I cannot reference quotes with page numbers, meaning I cannot use the book with APA citations.

Shaping School Culture, at 287 pages, excluding references, and index, is an academic tome on school culture—though the authors define culture through others (on page 8); the authors do not exactly define it within their scope of reference to begin at their on starting line, but without a foundational consensus definition, continue on from there. That is not to say that it is detrimental. Culture may be one of those intangibles that are unable to be tangible.“Parents, teachers, principals, and students have always sensed something special, yet undefined about their schools—something very powerful yet difficult to describe or put your finger on” (p 8). That is an extremely apt quote for the majority of the book. It tries to lay out a paradigm for changing the school culture into something more positive, productive, and prosperous. And, it may very well be a quagmire at times, quicksand in others, yet freedom for most of the book.The authors admit that the book grew out of their previous book for principals. But that does not mean that anyone else will not benefit from the book. While principals may indeed be the only ones that can truly move the school culture where they want it to go, teachers and other employees have every bit of stakeholder ownership in the school they work for.The authors offer a clear simple thesis: shaping school culture is in everyone’s best interests. They reveal their theme through stories of business, management, and education. They insist that every school can become a great one, as long as everyone involved is in it together and that no one is the salmon swimming upstream.The writers sharpen their focus through stories of well-known companies, IBM, Starbucks, Costco, and extremely well-regarded schools. This may be a double-edged sword to many: is this book a dog wagging its tail or the tail wagging the dog? Do they use well-known prosperous companies as the examples, or the exceptions? Is this book in search of a thesis or a thesis ins search of a book? The authors did a remarkable job of placing their theme within the confines of well-establish entities that have successful cultures and try to show how a weaker school can improve their school culture, grow, become prosperous, attain the culture that the school officials desire. It is definitely not an easy task, but a definitely achievable goal.The authors provide a great amount of research to back up their propositions, almost too much. Research paper after research paper is rolled out with theoretical question frameworks to start with. This may seem overwhelming to some; but in the ends of an average principal, answering the questions that begin in the book will definitely shed light on the present culture and can move one out of the darkness. It does take some resilience to go through the myriad of questions; but, real progress is never easy to achieve—it requires effort to want to change for the better.Credible, accurate details fill out the stories that are told and provide real things to grip on and inflate the storytelling arcs of the book. The details provide the impetus to emulate the best-of-the-best schools in the country, and provide the “data: that is sorely lacking on which to hang anything on. The authors are extremely knowledgeable about school culture and cite their own research throughout the book.The writers are able to grab the readers’ attention from the start by re-telling stories famous companies with outstanding business culture: IBM, Starbucks, and Costco. The examples foreshadow what is to come as they move to the age-old question: If schools are run like businesses, will that make them much more profitable and successful? The movement is subtle but necessary to demonstrate that if enormously bureaucratic companies can change and flourish, so can;t small or medium-sized schools and districts.A variety of carefully selected phrases and sentences are placed wisely to guide the reader through the book by showing them how ideas progress, relate, and, or diverge. The two-section book is laid out in a familiar format—the first section spells out “this is culture”, and the second section spells out “this is what you should do to change it.”This is definitely a book that is easy to follow. The details fit together logically, the pace slows down to spotlight important points or ideas and speeds up to where necessary to move the reader along. Shaping School Culture is a good book written for those in leadership positions within school systems. I have read many books on the importance of nurturing culture in schools, but this book is very different from others. The author uses stories to show how artifacts, routines, symbols, history, tales, rituals, ceremonies, and traditions can shape the culture of an organization. The book is divided into two sections: The Elements of Culture and The Symbolic Role of School Leaders. I found the second section to be of much greater use and more interesting to read. In this section, the author provides specific actions that can be taken to promote a positive culture, whereas the first section is much more philosophical. If you are looking to completely overhaul the culture in your school, or if you are just looking for small ways to promote a more positive atmosphere, this book can be a helpful, thought-provoking resource.

As a 4th year teacher, I now feel like I have the big overview of what is necessary. Thankfully I am a fellow for Teaching Trust in Dallas, Texas that also has the big picture in mind. I read this book a few weeks before that nonprofit assigned its fellows its Campus Action Plan on classroom culture. I am so glad I have this book to support my work and to tie it all together in terms of working with my administrators to make not only my classroom culture better but the entire school's culture better too!

Bought this for my son. He's obsessed with all things WW2 related. I haven't read it, but he has. He enjoys reading other view points.

Please read this book to learn the truth about the most lied-about figure of the 20th century.

I Highly recommend it as it was clear and accurate free of outside opinions.

This is the one you’ve been waiting for. Side by side English and German, so I can both work on my German and critique the translation. Highly recommended if you want to make a real study of this work. Looking forward to Vol. 2, which I assume will follow at some point, although I have months of study here.

To appreciate the light that exists in the world you have to study the darkness and it’s roots as well. Hitler is a historical figure that all should study, even though buying this book will probably get you put on a list somewhere. Learning about his motives and perspective will help you better understand the danger that could exist in your own.

Good read, would recommend. Sheds light on early 20th century European history and one man's interpretation of the first world war and the after-effects. Filled with tirades and arguments against parliamentary democracy, Jews, Communism, prostitution, race mixing, and more as well as Hitlers views on how to counter these threats to his nationalistic vision. And despite long tirades and arguments, always eventful and never boring. Some notes are included to provide basic background for readers who might not be familiar with German history and cultural references.

I read this book a long, long time ago in Spanish, my mother had it, and it was very interesting to read it again in English. It is a very serious book, sometimes difficult because you have to read it with an open mind, sad too, in the end. liked it a lot, learned new things that I had forgotten with the years. I learn to view life with a different lens.

If you read this book with focus, objectivity, and equip yourself with the tools for critical thinking, you will gain much insight into the causes of these endless wars and social upheavals that plague the planet today.Good luck,

I have one major complaint for Christa Watson 's book. I WANTED MORE PATTERNS AND MORE DESIGNS. I simply could not put the book down. After preordering the book in April , I have waited all this tell for a book that I knew was going to be good but I had no idea it would be so delicious. I have followed Christa's blog for over 2 years. I knew her style and enthusiasm would be absolutely amazing. I am having a hard time deciding which pattern to make 1st. I am sold on.that one÷)!.But my favorite thing about this book is Christa teach how without bring tedious.She gives you the facts..the how to do something that everyone can understand.Cannot wait to see the next book.

I'll never forget the first time I met Christa Watson. We were at QuiltCon 2015 in Austin, and I was leading tours of the Special Exhibits. It was the first day, and I hadn't had much of a chance to familiarize myself with the quilts in three of the four exhibits, and I was improvising somewhat. When we were looking at the Quilts of the Month, I asked if anyone in the group had made any of them, and Christa raised her hand. Not only had she made one, but her quilt was hanging right there in front of us. It was a pleasure to hear her describe the quilt and her design process, and she saved the day for me. I had to get the book, and was not the least bit surprised to see what an outstanding book she'd written. The book is brimming with great information, helpful tips, and gorgeous quilts! Highly recommended!! Kudos, Christa!!

Great book with lots of ideas for quilting. The book also includes several quilt patterns with directions and which quilting method the author recommends. She includes quilting with a walking foot and free-motion quilting. I highly recommend this book -- especially if you are looking for some new ideas or inspiration!

This book is an invaluable resource for quilters! From choosing your thread, to batting choices, all the way to picking and quilting the perfect design.... well, it just doesn't get better. As a long arm quilter, I know what it takes to quilt a quilt and Christa guides you flawlessly through the process of doing it all on your home domestic machine. This book is my favorite one so far.This book is very clear and easy to follow.I like free motion but also I want to try quilting with walking foot more so I am happy to have this book at my sewing room now.

This book is well written and the process is so well explained that even a novice like me is not afraid to try Christa's techniques. Plus, there are quite a few projects that illustrate her methods. I really will keep this one handy, and my next start-to-finish quilt will be one of these. Well done, Christa!

So far, my favorite quilt book...I love Christa Watson's patterns, and purchased this book so I could participate in her Facets QAL. Excellent quality book with lots of photos and easy to follow instructions.

I'm still a domestic machine quilting novice but if you follow along with the book and really practice, you will get the hang of it. It is a great jumping off point for getting started and a wonderful resource if you are looking for filler patterns. Although, many of the patterns would also make great all-over quilting texture for any quilt.
