This book is good. It is almost like listening to James May talking on Top Gear. It is a compilation of articles he has written in Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper as well as Top Gear magazine. Few if any of the articles reference a date, so I couldn't place them in a time-line, which probably isn't important in the grand scheme of things anyway. James has a very dry sense of humor as viewers of Top Gear already know. You won't FOFLOL at these articles, but you will smile a lot, and your head will be nodding in agreement with his opinions. And he does have an opinion about everything that crosses his daily life, not just cars! He is a very intelligent man, and demonstrates his intelligence in such a manner that those of us not so blessed can appreciate what he has to say.Being British, many references are unfamiliar to us here in the U.S., but don't let that stop you from buying this book! I have not finished the book yet; I read a couple articles, savor them, and then wait a day or two before continuing in order to make the book last longer. Each 'chapter' is only about two full pages in length which make it a good read if you are waiting on HOLD, or have only one more Metro stop before yours.I do wish it were available on Kindle, which it was not when I bought it.

Bought this for the Hubby for Easter (you know, a "guy" gift). I opened to a random page and was laughing immediately. Most important, Hubby loves it. James May is clever & extremely funny, but then we all know this already. Great book, worth reading.

First of all, it isn't a book as much as it is a compilation of articles that he has written. Most are three pages or so in length. Some reference Top Gear episodes that date back three to five years, not that this is a problem. I found most of these articles entertaining and because they are short reads each, it is an easy book to pick up and set down. If you expect it to focus on cars, you will be disappointed. It is more the opinion of James May and background stories behind his various shows. I like it, if for no other reason, because we don't get to see or hear any of this kind of thing in the United States.

I bought this book on the off-chance that I might actually like it, because I thought May was funny on Top Gear. I'm clueless about cars in general, so it was quite a leap. And while this book is called 'Car Fever,' not everything is actually about cars, so if you're a car enthusiast and that's as far as your liking of May goes, you may not want to bother. HOWEVER: if you're one of those people who thinks May is brilliant because he's nerdy, esoteric, and clearly smarter that the other two Top Gear presenters combined (though I love them both!), then yes, buy this. You won't stop laughing. :D

Here is another installment of the top gear franchise. I quite like James May's take on all things motoring.He writes in an easy style that is interesting to amble along with.A good book to have handy that you can just pick up and read a chapter and not worry about a story line

Someone has stolen my son's backpack with tons of school supplies and textbooks-- he was mostly so very sad that he lost his James May book.poor guy. He took it to school with him everyday. I read it as well--fantastic. funny.

Understood this was a years worth of his weekly newspaper column. Having watched him on BBC America (mostly Top Gear) i figured it was worth a few bucks. Glad i bought it. With the chapters being so short you can pick up where you left off without having to read all at once.

Funny and well written. My boyfriend says the stories are just the right length for when you're on the toilet :)

What an amazing story! My father lived in Italy during WWII and I never spoke with him when he was alive about how it was in Italy during the war. Many cities experienced much destruction, including Naples, Milan, Florence and Monte Cassino. In 1980 I saw DaVinci's fresco The Last Supper and there were photos of the destruction of the church where the fresco was. Did not dawn on me that it was allied bombs which blew up the church but the bombing was of the train yards right near the church. Even in a brutal war men realized the importance of these masterpieces, men on both sides of the war. The story that is told is incredible and I am surprised it took this long to get this story out there. I see where a movie is being made on this subject and will be released in December. Interwoven in the story is the German surrender in Italy and how complicated it was, the Germans just could not surrender that easy. Also did not know all the bridges in Florence were blown up by the Germans (rebuilt after the war) except for the Ponte Vecchio (which Hitler loved that bridge). The bombing of the abbey in Monte Cassino, allied forces had no choice but to bomb it. All the men searching for these masterpieces, college professors, museum curators, what a story. Thank you Robert Edsel for writing this story.

I couldn’t put it down! Saving Italy is a page turner with a compelling narrative that often keeps you on the edge-of-your-seat with suspense. The drawings that Monuments Man Deane Keller sent home to his young son offer a revealing insight into the man’s mixed emotions about his eagerness to help save the treasures of a country he loved in the midst of war, coupled with the loneliness and isolation he felt being separated from the family he adored. The passion and impulsiveness of Monuments Man Fred Hartt help the thrilling adventure of Saving Italy come alive. Edsel does a great job bringing out the very human side of his complex characters, including a little known Nazi General, Karl Wolff. The book is well-researched with many author interviews noted, but is presented in a way that reads more like an espionage novel. I highly recommend Saving Italy not just to those who love art or WWII History, but to anyone looking for an inspiring story about the human spirit and the sacrifices people make to follow their passion, risking their lives for a cause greater than themselves. Five stars doesn't seem like enough!

This is an amazing story about a part of WWII history that I was not familiar with. The author did a great job researching and writing this compelling narrative about a "new kind of soldier" empowered to protect rather than destroy. I have read many books about the war but can't remember one that included so many rich details. The characters practically leap off the page. The story is fast-paced, reading more like fiction. As a reader I felt like I was almost part of the adventure. One of the most interesting plots in Saving Italy involves a secret Nazi surrender of Italy in which the art work is held hostage while an SS General negotiates with American spies. I was surprised and riveted by these details. Overall, this is an exciting read and I would highly recommend it. (And I can't wait to see the Clooney movie based on the author's last book, The Monuments Men.)Saving Italy: The Race to Rescue a Nation's Treasures from the Nazis

For anyone interested in European art history, the stories told both in this book and The Monument Men should be considered. Art history isn't just about how art developed over time, but also how it maintained over time. World War 2 presented an extreme threat to a very large quantity of the world's most precious art objects.Saving Italy and The Monument Men explain how a small select group of art professionals worked with the Allied military to both minimize damage to art treasures as well as recover those taken by the Axis powers. Both books explain the extrordinary success of this small MFAA group spanning from 1943 through 1946.It should be recognized that the story still is not over as there are still thousands of art pieces that are still missing or not returned to their original owners.If like World War 2 stories and have an interest in art, I highly recommend both books by the same author. If you choose to read both books, I would recommend reading Saving Italy first as it actually precedes The Monument Men on a WW2 timeline, even though the author wrote them in reverse sequence. I recommend using your favorite search engine and Wikipedia to look up the artwork as you read these books, which will add to your appreciation. Btw, the author did include maps in Saving Italy, which helped a lot.I highly recommend both books.

Using the book for a month now and have to save most of the scenarios required for development in Django are covered. The examples provided are very useful and explanation concise. The book should benefit both beginners and advanced developers in Django.

I'm biased in regards to reviewing this book. I've worked with Jake Kronika in the past and I would work with him again in a heartbeat.That stated, the book so far as I have read it is an authoritative, comprehensive, decisive guide that is better than anything technical I've written (but see my author bookshelf for mostly non-IT works, some of which have good reviews).I have looked through the title briefly, and I regard my free review copy as an informational windfall. I've looked at it a bit, and I expect I'll be diving in full force next Django project!

Django 2 Web Development Cookbook is well organized and very detailed. This is a reference guide you'll want on hand or a great place to start if you are new to developing with Django. Jake even takes the time to explore and detail setting up your environment and covers a variety of approaches for doing so. If you are looking for a book that will help expand your knowledge and improve your Django 2 development, start here.

There are certain genres that I just don't read. Romance, non-fiction, poetry (UGH!), and Christian fiction. Victoria Christopher Murray falls in the last category... although she might have issueS with the "Christian fiction" label. That's what I call it. My books have to have a certain "ump" to them. They either have to have lots of graphic violence and/or graphic sex and/or graphic drama and/or characters that need Jesus more than Satan. (Ad yes, I DO know that I just said "graphic drama") I know it's prejudiced but Christian fiction just doesn't have that "ump", and it's probably not supposed to. So because it doesn't I usually just skip it. So what in the world made me choose this book?1. Ummm... look at the cover (just kidding).2. No I'm not kidding.3. A pretty little birdie in D.C. told me it was good and I trust her judgement.4. I'm willing to at least try other genres.So did I enjoy this book? Without intending to offend the Christian fiction readers that might be reading this review, "HELL YES"!! Victoria can write and she can write well. Extremely well. Even though this book didn't have the graphic details that I look for it did have the other thing I look for; a very GOOD story. Actually let me back up and say that while this book didn't have the graphic details of the things I'm used to, it does have that in here.Jasmine is a mess. She's a woman who enjoys sex (a LOT of it) and she is also very comfortable with holding others to a different standard than she holds herself. Conveniently delusional is a pretty good description. Buuuuuut she's about to get married and all that is about to change. Right? Not hardly. Matter of fact, a good argument could be made that she's even more scandalous now than before she was engaged. She's engaged to Kenny, but meets a dude named Roman. She absolutely loves Kenny and her only attachment to Roman is that he can make her va-jay-jay sing like Mariah Carey. Kenny can't.But Jasmine has other demons and it seems that she is almost forcing herself to marry Kenny. Don't get me wrong, Kenny is a good man but he's not the right man for Jasmine. I felt bad for him because he has no idea that he's about to commit to something that he can't control. Or even contain. Jasmine gets caught up and the repercussions are serious. So serious that I was absolutely shocked to read about one incident. I love authors that write "to the point of no return" and Victoria has a scene in here that made my jaw drop. I sincerely didn't expect that. Nor did I expect the ending.This isn't fair. Now I have to put Victoria's other books in my reading que because I have to see if Jasmine is still a nut. (She is.) This eBook is a prequel and it looks like the husband in this one isn't the same one in others. Not a spoiler, because like I just said, this is a prequel. I had a blast reading this book and I almost feel bad waiting this long to read a book by Victoria Christopher Murray. I say `almost' because I hate waiting for books in a series. Now I can just fly through the "Jasmine Chronicles" without having to pretend that I'm Job and having patience while waiting for the next book!Great job Victoria.

While I have always liked the author and the characters she creates, I did not enjoy this book as much as the others. The premise is intriguing but about 20% into the book I wanted to stop reading. Unfortunately for me it was our book club selection so I had to read on. If you have read the other books that include Jasmine Cox Larsen then you will appreciate knowing more about her childhood and how she came to be as scandalous as she continues to be throughout the series. This is the story of her first love and marriage and her addiction to sex and luxury. However, the story is rushed and choppy. Still you hear in the narrative the usual wry humor of this author as Jasmine talks to herself in her head. Jasmine is being stalked by a one night stand who she met and had sex with the day before and the day after her wedding. The story follows her antics to shake this character all the way to its tragic end. Of course, Jasmine is as devious as usual but there are times when though her behavior is disgusting and "scandalous" you feel for her. You certainly do for her husband.

Soooo, this is where it ALL began with Jasmine Cox-Larson, AKA: Jasmine Cox-Bush (the series), what a profound journey for her character. A wild, crazy and intriguing storyline, not to mention the roller coaster life she lived; with the lies, deceit and betrayal with everyone that played a role in her life. My question is, will Jasmine EVER learn to be honest with herself, and the people/loved ones that she claimed to love and cherish so much. I found the stories in this series to be very interesting and intriguing. I definitely recommend that you read the series, and then you be the judge.Happy Reading.LNichols

I have never read a book by VCM...I have heard of her, so her reputation precedes her. I don't even know how I came across the Jasmine series but reading the reviews of the previous books I decided to indulge myself.I thought the book was good. It was kinda short, but its okay because I have the next 2 series in the book on its way. I identified with Jasmine in many ways, I really want her to love Kenny and she really does love him, but I can tell that their, rather HIS fairy tale marriage isn't gonna last.And Roman....all I can do is SMH...and be mad because if I ever had a son I would name him Roman...ole dirty dog!!!!ANYWAYS.....I read the reviews of this book and Im sooooo glad I FB'd the author to get the correct order of the Jasmine series, becuz this particular book is kind of new, and most of the lower reviews are from fans who previously read the series. So I gather this is some what of a prequel...with that being said, according to Miss VCM, this is the book order:ScandolousTemptationA sin & A shameTo little too lateLady JasmineSins of a motherSinners & SaintsFriend & FoesFortune and Fame (which I beleive hasn't yet been released)I like VCM writing style and I can tell she is gifted with her words.Overall this was a great read....for those just starting the series

I could not wait for this book to come out. I finished it in two days! Lady Jasmine aka "Pepper" is a character you love to hate and hate to love. If you have been following the Lady Jasmine then you already know she is always a step ahead and there is NOTHING that she won't do to get what she wants. You have no idea just how SCANDALOUS Lady Jasmine can be. VCM has definitely created another page turner, just when you get to the end of a chapter she leaves you with the desire to find out what is going to happen next. If you are one of the few who is not familiar with Lady Jasmine, I guarantee you after reading SCANDALOUS, you will want more of her so go ahead and pick up TEMPTATION, which is Victoria's first novel that introduced us to Jasmine. I give SCANDALOUS only 5 stars because 10 was not available.

My daughter loves these books!

This book was a bit above my kids' levels, but as a parent, I think it's great and they'll grow into it. I even learned a couple of facts about other places in the world! I look forward to reading it to them again when they're a bit older and can understand what we're talking about a little more.

I was really looking forward to buying this for a long time. I kept going back and forth between National Geographic and DK encyclopedias for my children to use as reference books.I am disappointed by the content. We liked the pictures but the content is so minimal and dry that my children just can't get much out of it at 6 and 4 years old. It feels like an over priced intro to the world.I wouldn't have bought it if I saw it in person.

Such a great intro to the world! It is organized by continent and for each it begins with a great two-page photo.Then there is a brief description of the continent and a map of its countries. Next is a description of the land and a wonderful map of the terrain. Weather, people, animals, and sights follow. Each continent ends with a fun project or a point of interest. The type is large and clear. The text is excellent and brief, sticking to highlights. The pictures are first rate! You cannot go wrong with this as an intro to world geography!

My 6 years old daughter loves reading this book! Beautifully illustrated!

We got this book for our son for Christmas. He's 4 1/2 and extremely interested in different parts of the world and how things work. We were so impressed by the Space book in this series that we decided to get him another. The perks are the color photographs and concise facts about the parts of the world that a child would be interested in, such as animals, plants and places.

Very good book. Enjoyed reading it with kids. We, adults, learned some new stuff from this book also. Recommend for K - 1st grade. We have all National geographic Big books, and love them all, this one didn't disappoint either!

Strange, extremely large layout inside, not much content. Not much content is expected because it's a children's book but the very enlarged layout seems like it's either accidentally cut off by printer or it was designed for people who can't see well. Also way thinner than I expected a book like this to be.

Had high hopes for this given the reviews, but was pretty disappointed.1) the photos are very dated, low resolution and looks like they were mostly pulled from stock images.2) the topics are quite shallow and the content is disappointingly inane. "Look! here is Australia, it's where the kangaroos live" By the time a six years old can read this book, they're rolling their eyes and yawning at the facts given here..
