The book was an easy read and one that you can go through without putting down. As a risk professional, it was a great reminder of somethings, but also provided enough subject matter expertise that I learned some new ideas and ways of thinking about other things that I already knew. Highly recommend this for any new or mid-level risk managers.

I really like this book. It is an easy ready and a great reference for anyone who wants to understand Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and governance. In addition, it is a nice resource for Board Members who want to understand their role on overseeing risk and how risk impacts the business. The author is recognized and demonstrates solid knowledge.

I was looking for a good baseline to understand the GRC market.

Good.....insightful read

The elements of strong corporate governance are lucidly explained by author Rick Steinberg with the right balance between conceptual and practical. Too often books in this field are so conceptual as to be close to useless, or so academic as to bear little relation to the complexities of a fast moving real-life corporation. It also indicates an understanding of the costs and effort to get it right, the tradeoffs that must be made, and the scarcity of executive and Board time and comprehension, of complex fast-moving corporate entities. The inclusion of analysis of some of the current controverisies over Board practices--BP and HP for example--render it more alive and timely than many more stultifying entries. As a Chairman or CEO for over 25 years, I can appreciate the scope and practicality of this guide.

While it's never too late for a current CEO or board member to learn what their responsibilities are to their stockholders, I'd strongly recommend that every undergraduate and graduate business school include this book as required reading. It is written in language that everyone can understand. It includes many current examples of the right and wrong ways companies have approached this subject in a readable fashion that is not boring. Mr STEINBERG has done a masterful job making a subject that appears to most as a unnecessary evil that one has to find a way to deal with into an opportunity for success .

Although its intended audience is primarily senior corporate executives and board members, this book delivers on its stated purpose and jacket promotions and serves as an excellent how-to manual for any security manager. Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance deals with the principles that result in long-term success for organizations large or small. The author presents the three top success indicators of an organization--effective organizational governance, proactive response to risk management issues, and strict adherence to compliance procedures. These define an ethical organization, and security managers need to master them. According to the author, governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC) activities are too often thought of as insignificant "plumbing" in the depths of an organization, but in reality, it is these very activities that often determine whether a company wins or loses in a marketplace. Senior management teams may be overly confident that the pitfalls and failings of peers and subordinates can't possibly happen in their companies, on their watch. However, the high-profile failings of the big oil companies, real-estate moguls, and financial institutions are vivid examples cited by the author to prove his case. The book points out common pitfalls to bottom-line success, such as becoming intractably overcommitted to one strategy, being reluctant to acknowledge past mistakes, and creating an environment that makes it difficult to raise concerns about critical issues. With the author's clear guidance on aligning processes and technology with organizational strategy, goals, and values, the book explains how to help protect a company from financial and reputational risk, costly litigation, and government intervention. The author takes the novel stance that risk management is not about what has happened, nor about the problems that need to be dealt with, but about what could happen and the urgent need for proactively managing the risk. He wisely reminds the reader that the single most significant driver for a company's culture and subsequent success is not the code of conduct or other policies, but the actions of senior management in carrying out GRC. This book was required for a class.I thought it would be great and have a lot of hands on projects etc.There is a lot of good information here, but it falls short in the hands on.Also, it has a ton of very dry math.Do not get it unless it is required for school.

The book is OK but it is 6 years old. Computer and network security have evolved so much in the last six years that the book is pretty out dated. It's a good basic foundation, not much more.

This book is ok, but I did not buy it for pleasure. I bought it because I had to for a networking class. I have to say that if I was interested in networking, this book would probably be super.

They say the condition of this book was good. My interpretation of good is very different from theirs. This book that arrived appears to have water damage. The binder is coming a part, the pages are wrinkled, and overall quality is not usable. I am very disappointed and shocked that someone would even attempt to sell something in this condition.

I've read a lot of books on mental toughness lately. First off, most of them are written for athletes, and though I hit the gym twice a day every day, I'm not technically an athlete. Second, most books on leadership don't give you a lot of detail. Divine doesn't write in platitudes and ideals. He delivers actionable information.The challenge: there are lots of acronyms to memorize in this book. Divine hails from the US Armed Forces (Navy SEAL Commander, Retired), so the love of TLAs is in high effect. But in the end, like all good things, you learn a bit easier because you remember them longer (DIRECT and PROP and SMACC are just things I do now every day).The trick: there's a trick to this book. I almost don't want to tell you. He wants your mind and spirit to work just as hard as anything else. There's tons in here on meditation and on what can typically be considered spirituality. Only, it's written with far less crystals and fussy foo foo language and it's written like the kind of stuff you need to get your brain and soul as tight as your body for the work ahead.The best: Divine gives you so many ways to take action, with a really good progression around it, that this book will DEFINITELY improve your mindset, your efforts, your intentions, and your output.If you do the work. But then, that's the same with anything.I've read a LOT of books on the subject matter covered by Mark Divine in this book but this one stands out above the others. Just as a point of fact, I've purchased the book three times so far, and will likely give out more to people over time. It's a must read. I've been blathering about it far too much.Get on this.

Commander Divine's tools that he developed in his life to succeed at elite levels at all times, including under intense pressure, have proven very useful to me in my life. I have given many copies of this book to others, both at work and in my personal life. I highly recommend this book and suggest that readers really try what he suggests, because it does work.As an example, I have challenged a number of people at work to try the morning 'ritual' for two weeks and have not once had someone not say it made a big impact on their day. Great stuff.

Really enjoyed it. Mark Divine is obviously a master of physical ability and mental control, but what impressed me the most is his focus on balance and promoting being well-rounded. This is not a book about pushing your way through life; but guiding your own path and in relation to others, dealing with your past and emotional s*!t, realizing how much more you are capable of than you realize, and includes the spiritual side too. Recommended especially for those of you who are looking to find direction and motivation in their lives.

Don't think for a minute this book is only about Navy SEALS. It is about a way of thinking, how to think effectively and achieve your goals in a focused and determined manner, build intuition, deal with adversity and do it all with much less stress. What is taught applies to SEALS, executives, athletes, and well everyone who wants to do more than just accept what life throws your way. Coach Divine teaches you how to take back control of your life and drive it rather than just be a passenger. I've read plenty of self-help books and this is seriously a cut above. Throw the rest out, they are now obsolete. I'm getting everyone on my team at work a copy of this book.

This book is full of very practical applications of leadership that incorporate physical, spiritual, emotional, and physical dimensions. For me, I really enjoyed learning about personal and organizational leadership using Navy Seals lingo and examples but I could see how for some that might be challenging.All said and done I'm impressed with this book and I believe this a good read along with other books that talk about business, leadership, fitness, willpower, etc.

I have read tons and tons of self-help books and this is by far one of the best. Aside from Richard Mackowicz's "Unleash The Warrior Within" which is also written by fellow seal Mack, this is one of the best personal development books you can spend money on.I strongly suggest anyone looking to accomplish their goals, beat depression, or any type of life challenge give this book a try! The chapter on creating a Mind Gym for visualization and goal setting alone is worth the price of admission. I can't think of another tool in my arsenal now that has helped me more then that one.Not to mention all of the other gems sprinkled throughout the book. Mark is no nonsense and no joke, but never talks down to his audience. He relates to you and helps guide you the way he was guided himself.Get this book if you are trying to accomplish goals and are experiencing setbacks. You will not be disappointed!

Great book! Really got me inspired to take action. Great tools for life! I will be highly recommending this book to a lottt of people! I love that it has a lot of calls to action, it gets you into actually putting the books theories to work WHILE you're reading. It is written in a way that it can apply to any "type" of person from a stay at home mom, to a business entrepreneur or aspiring navy seal. Its not all "fru fru" like some self help type books. I think my husband would actually read this and not be at risk of loosing his eyes as they roll in the back of his head :)

Interesting story line, I want more from the characters you get told how the guys are but other than Max you don't really get them. Hopefully there will be more depth to them next time.

I rally like the concept behind this book and the overall plot. It’s unique and plays with the concept of fated mates rather well, including adding jealousy where many RH novels make a deliberate attempt to leave that out.Multiple POV, fated mates, mmmmf, fast burn.Pros:- Interesting Plot.- Inclusion of expected human emotions with multiple pairings was a welcome addition.- Shira, female character that isn’t horrible or catty to the FMC, again a switch up within genre.Cons:- much too fast.- Some editing issues.- would like more character building.

This is a fabulous new RH. It's a quick read with non-stop action and amazing characters who tug at your heart strings. Ari and all her shifter alphas are just beginning to know each other, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the series brings.Also appreciate the diverse cast in human & fantasy form. Werewolves, dragons, bear shifters, and panthers.

All Ariana has known for last decade is fighting. Her owner has her in the pits tearing through opponents. Other unlucky snatches or slaves or debtors; it doesn't matter. The only rules she has known are: stay to the back of the cage and kill or die. So when her rescue comes about and she's told that her new life involves being a peacemaker, yeah, there's a lot of panic. What does she know about peace? And holding together 4 clans of very different shifters doesn't sound fun at all. No matter that her wolf is shouting that the alpha of each are her mates.Spoilers ahead.Ok, this started off decent. Ari is tough, she's held it together for a decade plus in the pits. Although, we're never really given an age on her. Anyways, my issues started right after her rescue. Knowing that she's lived in a cage, when she acts out (how quickly they forget her last taste of freedom was as a child) they toss her in a cage?? Wtf? My vote was for her to ditch, or bury him in a ditch, her would-be mate right then and there. Prisoners get cages. Terrified and traumatized mates should not. Knowing all she knows is fighting, he's an ass. Making her angry again and again. He's arrogant, and I don't care if he's an alpha or not, arrogance without compassion is just a jerk in charge, not a leader. His second is no better. She goes from treating Ari like a wounded pup to belittling her. When the other leaders show up after learning that the Silver Shifter is there, at least they are upset over how she's treated. But then Ari goes from tough chick to TSTL. Running away when she's not even sure where she is, no plan on supporting herself other than hunting and hiding, and instead of keeping her head down and learning things she's living like a 15yo ditching her parents. She may kick butt in a fight but when she keeps getting swarmed by hordes of vampires maybe running off alone, or with only 1 guy and no guards, isn't such a good idea. The numbers are just against her. And communication is a zero. She forgives Max, way too quickly in my opinion, and agrees she's his mate and bonds. Nothing more than a kiss with some fangs but seals the bond between them. Ok. But after recognizing that the other three are her mates, does not inform Max of this. In fact, she goes off on a tryst with Cash, after a heavy petting session with Owen, and Max and Owen find out (about Cash, and each other) when she returns and only after she's confronted. I get RH themes. But that's just an open relationship, only half of the couple doesn't realize it. Poor Jett is odd man out at this point, but after watching what's been going on around him with his friends, I have to say he may be the smart one by not getting involved with that madness. So, needless to say Ari's character has me questioning if I want to continue on when the next is released in April. I'm all for RH, I'm all for going after what you want and sexual liberation. But when you commit to one, and know that the mate bonds formed are 1-1 and that's what the other assumes will be, then there needs to be discussions if things are different. Back to that communication thing again.

Hard book to rate, is it horrible to say I only liked the ending? I surprised myself on pushing through to finish when there was plenty of times throughout the read I didn't want to , this book seemed rushed in the romance department, and I didn't care how it was done, i didn't care for her sleeping with them behind each of their backs, claiming them, then telling them after like nothing, for someone trapped her whole life trapping these men without explaining the whole situation was messed up. I also didn't like how some treated her and would say sorry and all was forgiven, we actually have a mate who knows she's been locked up and locks her up again, it blew mind mind, and yet she's mad at him but finds him so handsome. (Eye roll) I know this is fantasy but so much was unbelievable. It was also hard to believe a women trapped and feral who was killing her whole life did a 360 and was ready to meet clans and become this savior. I loved the whole idea of this storyline, but it was rushed to death and poorly executed. The ending was the only part I actually thought was cool, pity.

When I first got this book I was actually kind of dreading it because I thought it was just going to be another shifter book like the hundred or so already out. Wow was I surprised! It was like nothing I could have imagined. About the Author

Heather Hearn Rathnau graduated Magna Cum Laude from Baylor University with Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Pedagogy and Vocal Performance & Literature, respectively. She received numerous scholarships for piano, vocal performance and academics, in addition to a graduate assistantship in accompanying. At Baylor, Heather was a member of several academic honor societies and was also selected for the national music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda, which recognizes the highest levels of musical achievement and academic scholarship in colleges, universities and other institutions of higher learning. The international professional music fraternity, Mu Phi Epsilon, also presented Heather its coveted Sterling Achievement Award as the outstanding senior Mu Phi student in the nation. Heather is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) in Piano and maintains a successful private studio teaching piano and voice. She has directed childrens choirs at her church, and also served as an adjudicator and clinician for childrens choir workshops and seminars on vocal technique. Additionally, she has been guest soloist for the keynote speaker at the Baptist General Convention of Texas and is a former member of the San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers. Heather is a charter member of the Sugar Land (TX) Choral Society, founded by one of her former students. She is listed in Whos Who in America, 60th Edition and Whos Who of American Women. Heather was named Teacher of the Year at the 2011 Texas Music Teachers Association (TMTA) State Convention awarded for the highest service to and representation of TMTA, Music Teachers National Association and the music teaching profession, in addition to an excellent record in the teaching profession. Her students actively participate in the National Federation of Music Clubs Gold Cup Festival and have received numerous awards for music theory, composition, publication and ensemble at TMTA state conventions.

This book is excellent, as are all the levels, to draw the student through the learning process. Music theory is presented in a very organized, step-by-step manner. If the levels are used in order, they review previous lessons and add to them at just the right rate. The primer is perfect for very young, but also special needs children. If the facilitator has no theory knowledge, the answer key will be necessary, as there are no answers in these books. However, no previous knowledge is needed if one procedes systematically through these books. These are perfect for home schooling when no music instructor is available. Availability of a piano is nice, but not required. Ear training is done by accessing on-line videos.

There are a lot of great theory books out there and I have used most of them. This series my students love! It is easy to get my students to do a couple of pages a lesson and often times they will do more during the week. As a teacher I like how the first half of the book is review from the previous book. This works great; if the student understood the book they were working in I skip a level when ordering the next book. On the other hand if my student had difficulties with the information I simply order the next book and we can review the information again before moving into new information. I think the students like the "comics" looking book and the games inside. .

I love these Theory Time workbooks for my kids. Learning music theory is just as important as learning to play the instrument. Things that seem like common sense to adults aren't always common sense to kids. The Theory Time books break music theory down into digestible pieces for kids to understand. They have helped my kids to read music better and reinforce what their violin and cello teachers have been teaching them. I highly recommend these workbooks.

Comprehensive and easy to follow study book for a music theory deficient senior student (66), recommended to me by my professional music (piano) teacher.
